Stakeholder engagement

AkzoNobel recognizes that in view of the scope of its activities and the public role the company fulfils, proper communication with its various groups of stakeholders is essential. In many cases we go a step further: we work together with stakeholders to develop improved products and/or business concepts.

Focusing on our cutomers future first, one of AkzoNobel’s core values is probably the most dominant aspect of AkzoNobel’s stakeholder engagement. But also our relations with suppliers are vital to optimize sustainability aspects and unlock business value along the value chain. Investors and analysts, governments and Industry associations, non-governmental and sustainability organizations, our neighbors, the general public and the media are other important stakeholders which we provide with proper information and with which we maintain good relationships.

An important aspect of our community involvement is to help our people to make a difference in their neighborhoods: this is co-ordinated and funded through the AkzoNobel Community Program. The AkzoNobel product Ferrazone helps to prevent iron deficiency through staple food fortification programs. These fortification programmes have a significant impact on meeting the Millennium Development Goals “Achieve universal primary education” and “Improve Maternal Health”. Early 2009, AkzoNobel has established its overall impact on the Millennium Development Goals by using a unique tool, the MDG Scan – developed by Dutch NGO NCDO (Dutch Committee for Sustainable Development).
