Memberships and endorsements

We support a number of external organizations and charters to demonstrate our commitment to sustainability issues.

1. AkzoNobel has been a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact since 2004.

2. AkzoNobel’s Code of Conduct is based on the principles of the OECD Guidelines forMultinational Enterprises, the ILO Fundamental Labor Principles, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the United Nations Global Compact.

3. AkzoNobel adheres to the principles of Responsible Care®. This is the chemical industry’s global voluntary initiative under which companies, through their national associations, work together to continuously improve their health, safety and environmental performance, and to communicate with stakeholders about their products and processes.  In 2007, AkzoNobel became a signatory to the Global Responsible Care Charter.

4. AkzoNobel’s Decorative Paints and Performance Coatings Businesses adhere to the  principles of Coatings Care®. This is the preeminent environmental health and safety management program for coatings manufacturers around the world, and is being actively implemented by paint, printing ink, and adhesives companies in over 11 countries. These companies are making effective use of the Coatings Care ® programs and resource materials, all of which are aimed at providing business value while enhancing health, safety and environmental performance.

5. AkzoNobel is a member of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development.

6. AkzoNobel is a Foundation Corporate partner of Forum for the Future, a leading UK Sustainability charity.

7. AkzoNobel has worked with the World Resources Institute on an Eco-systems Services Review and development of the international Greenhouse Gas Protocol.
